You can delete your MzansiShield account, and everything stored with it, at any time. You do not need to give a reason and we will not ask you to talk to anyone first.
Option 1 — in the app (fastest)
If you can still sign in, do it here. It takes effect immediately and you do not have to wait for us.
- Open MzansiShield and sign in.
- Go to Settings (your profile, then the settings icon).
- Scroll to Account and tap Delete profile permanently.
- Read the confirmation, then confirm. You may be asked for your password or an emailed PIN — that is there so nobody else can delete your account.
Only want a break, not an ending? The same screen offers Deactivate profile. That hides your profile and stops every alert, but deletes nothing — sign in any time to bring it back.
Option 2 — by email (if you have uninstalled the app)
Send us an email from the address on your account, so we can tell it is really you, with the word DELETE in the subject line.
We erase the account and everything on it within 7 days and reply to confirm when it is done. If your account was created with a phone number rather than an email address, write to the same address and tell us the number — we will verify it before we delete anything.
What gets deleted
- Your account, display name, handle, email address or phone number, and profile photo.
- Every post and report you made under your name, with their photos and voice notes.
- Your replies, confirmations, reposts, follows and blocks.
- Your direct messages, your group memberships, and any provider or service listings you own.
- Your saved places, alert radii, trusted circle and notification subscriptions.
- Any reports you filed about other people or content.
When it happens
Your profile is hidden from everyone else straight away. Everything is then permanently erased after 7 days. That week exists for one reason: it is your chance to change your mind. Sign in before it is up and the deletion is cancelled and nothing is lost. After that it cannot be undone by you or by us.
What we may have to keep, and why
We would rather tell you this than let you discover it:
- Anonymous reports stay up. A report you published anonymously carries no name, no handle and nothing linking it to you once your account is gone, so deleting your account does not remove it from the feed. If you want a specific anonymous report taken down, say so in your email and we will remove it.
- Child-safety and law-enforcement records. Where we have preserved material because of a child-safety report or a lawful request, we keep it for as long as the law requires, even after the account is deleted. Deleting an account has never been a way to destroy evidence and we will not make it one.
- Anonymised, aggregated safety statistics. Counts of incidents by area and time carry nothing that identifies you and are not reconstructed back to a person, so they are not deleted.
Nothing else is retained. We do not keep a shadow copy "in case you come back".
Deleting a child's account or safety device
A parent or guardian can delete a child's account or switch off a managed safety device at any time, from their own Settings under the child's entry, or by emailing us at the address above from the guardian's own address.
Your other POPIA rights
Deletion is not the only thing you can ask for. You may also request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or object to how we use it. Write to consulting@sysrely.com. See our Privacy Policy for the full list and for how to complain to the Information Regulator if you are not satisfied with our answer.
Deleting your account does not cancel an active SOS or live-location share. Stop those in the app first. And if you are in danger right now, call the SAPS on 10111 — do not spend the time on this page.
